Lina Morita - Preliminary Juror

Pianist Lina Morita a native of São Paulo, Brazil, has performed in various solo and chamber music performances across the US and abroad. Recently, she has performed solo recitals at the University of North Dakota, Sam Houston State University, Louisiana State University, University of Southern Mississippi, Tulane University, Church of the Epiphany (DC). Ms. Morita has appeared in chamber music performances at the Music Center at Strathmore (MD), Atlas Performing Arts Center (DC), St. Mary’s College, National City Christian Church (DC), Hochstein School Performance Hall (NY), Sala Xochipilli, UNAM (Mexico).

Recently, Ms. Morita performed the Chopin Fm Concerto with the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra with conductor Charles Latshaw. Other concerto appearances include the Beethoven Concerto No. 4 with the Lake Charles Symphony and the Washington Sinfonietta with conductor Joel Lazar.

As a master class presenter, she has been invited to teach at the University of North Dakota and the University of Southern Mississippi. She has also given master classes for the Lake Charles Piano Teachers Association, and the Baton Rouge Piano Teachers Association. In the summer of 2009 and 2010, she was on the faculty of the Summer Piano Camp at Sam Houston State University.

Ms. Morita has received the D.M.A. degree from the Eastman School of Music in Piano Performance and Literature; the M.M. from Rice University; and the B.M. from Indiana University. Her primary studies have been with renowned professor Nelita True, Robert Roux, Edmund Battersby, and Michel Block. Her additional studies include lessons and master classes with John Kimura Parker, Michel Beroff, Frederic Chiu, Ian Hobson, and Malcolm Bilson. Ms. Morita is a former faculty member of the Levine School of Music (DC), Hochstein School of Music (NY), Eastman Community Music School, and the Rice University Shepherd School of Music Preparatory Program.

Ms. Morita is currently the Assistant Professor of Piano at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA.
